‘We are living in a watershed moment’

Last night saw the 2018 Screen Actors Guild Awards, hosted this year by A list actress Kristen Bell.

’There has never been a host for this awards show,’ the 37-year-old said of the historic moment, going on to describe herself as the ‘first lady’ of the ceremony.

‘I never thought I’d grow up to be the first lady, but you know what? I kinda like it,’ she announced to the crowd. ‘I think my first initiative as first lady will be cyberbullying’ she continued, making an obvious jibe at Melania Trump’s previous choice of initiative. ‘Because I have yet to see any progress made on that problem quite yet.’

Going on to speak about the recent revelations surrounding the mistreatment of women in Hollywood, she continued:

‘Everyone’s story deserves to be told, especially now. We are living in a watershed moment and as we march forward with active momentum and open ears, let’s make sure that we’re leading the charge with empathy and with diligence because fear and anger never win the race.’

Leaving her opening monologue on a positive note, she concluded: ‘And most importantly, regardless of our differences, we can all come together and delight in one thing – Frozen 2 is coming to theatres in 2019 you guys, I’m very excited.’

We officially cannot wait.
