But why?

Game of Thrones doesn’t have a great history with weddings (See the Red Wedding for details), so fans were surprised when two of its stars, Kit Harington and Rose Leslie decided to go all GOT with their own ceremony.

That’s right. The co-stars - who played onscreen lovers Jon Snow and Ygritte - tied the knot this weekend in Scotland - saying ‘I Do’ in front of friends, family and a lot of famous faces.

The couple emerged from the Aberdeenshire ceremony at Rayne Church as man and wife, with Game of Thrones co-stars showering them in flower petal confetti, before the guests headed to the reception, in the grounds of Wardhill Castle, owned by Rose’s father, Seb Leslie.

From the get-go, it was always going to be a Game of Thrones wedding, with Kit explaining on the Jonathon Ross show that he had told the director that the whole cast needed to be there.

‘I rang him up and I said, “I’m getting married and it’s your fault, actually,”’ the groom explained of telling the Game of Thrones director of the impending nuptials. ‘I was like, “You need to factor in a Game of Thrones wedding, by the way. [The cast] have all got to be there, so the whole thing has got to shut down.”’

From Maisie Williams and Sophie Turner to Peter Dinklage and Emilia Clarke, there were a host of Game of Thrones faces in attendance, but some were noticeably absent.

The most obvious absences were from the house of Lannister, with both Lena Headey (Cercei Lannister) and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Ser Jaime Lannister) missing from the pews.

It seems that it wasn’t down to Lannister vs Stark rivalry however, with other missing faces including Sean Bean (Jon’s father Ned Stark) and Rose Leslie’s character Ygritte’s pal, Kristofer Hivju - two surefire attendees.

While a lot of the absences could be down to filming conflicts, we’re sad that a full Game of Thrones reunion didn’t quite take place.

Maybe we’ll have to wait till round two at Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas’ nuptials?
