Kelly Clarkson responds to body shamers in the best possible way

And we love her for it.

Kelly Clarkson has never been afraid to stand up for herself, and having risen to fame in 2002, she has 15 years of experience, enduring the negatives (as well as the positives) that come with fame. So it’s safe to say she knows how to deal with online trolls, something she proved this week when she took one down in the best possible way.

With July 5th marking Independence Day, Kelly took to her Twitter to publicly celebrate the date, posting: ‘Thank u 2 every person in service 4 protecting all of us and cheers to every person who fought for us to experience freedom & independence.’

While the normal response would be to retweet Kelly’s message or reply in agreement, some Twitter users chose to comment on the 35-year-old’s weight instead.

‘You’re fat’ wrote one troll, but while that would have reduced most of us to tears, Kelly kept cool, classily replying ‘…and still fucking awesome.’

Well played Miss Clarkson.

According to Kelly, it’s something she knows all too well, explaining how she deals with body shaming in an interview with Ellen DeGeneres back in 2015.

‘I love how people think that’s new and it’s like, “Welcome to the past 13 years,” she explained to Ellen. ‘I was the biggest girl on American Idol too – and I wasn’t big, but people would call me big because I was the biggest one on Idol. I’ve kind of always gotten that.’

She continued: ‘You’re just who you are. We are who we are – whatever size, and it doesn’t matter that we’re going to be that forever.’

‘Sometimes we’re more fit, especially with me, I’m such a creative person that I yo-yo. Sometimes I’m more fit and I get into kickboxing hardcore. Then sometimes I don’t, and I’m like, I’d rather have wine.’

We’re with you Kelly.
