Marie Claire and friends were out in force on Thursday night to celebrate the eleven brilliant winners of the Marie Claire Future Shapers Awards, in partnership with Neutrogena.

Marie Claire scoured the country to find the eleven winners, all immensely talented women changing the way we live and work in fields ranging from tech and science to arts and activism. The eleven Future Shapers Awards winners included anti-extremism activist Sara Khan, FoodCloud founder Iseult Ward, CrowdJustice legal mastermind Julia Salasky, Instagram’s Amy Cole and tailor Phoebe Gormley.

Olympic track star Katarina Johnson-Thompson came up on stage to present Future Shapers Award winner Samantha Payne with her prize. Payne is the co-founder of Open Bionics, a start-up that creates affordable bionic hands for amputees, and Johnson-Thompson praised her work for giving people greater freedom and independence.

Celebrities in attendance included Billie JD Porter (who went upstairs to play a set at the post-ceremony party), Millie Mackintosh and singer Rebecca Ferguson. As the music got going, guests were treated to cocktails including Cointreau Fizz with cucumber and basil, Freixenet Ice Cava with mint and Piccini Orange Label Bianco Toscana wine, while on the menu were chicken skewers, lobster arancini and heritage tomato tartlets, before the late-night snacks arrived (salt beef bagels and Mexican bean burgers.)

To give everyone a little career inspiration while they partied, on the walls around the room were blown up images of quotes from the Future Shapers winners. ‘Surround yourself with positive people who believe in you’ read Iseult Ward’s quote, while Karen Mattison advised to not ‘wait for opportunities. Set targets and take small steps to tick them off.’

The quotes were part of Marie Claire’s latest initiative #PassItOn, which encourages women to share advice and guidance from their own careers to help others. Want to get involved? Simply tweet your own piece of career advice or hard-won lessons from your own career with the hashtag #PassItOn.
