The battle between Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton to become America's Commander-in-Chief has been one of the most combative in decades. And as we reach a bleak looking election day in November 2016, the third and final debate in Las Vegas saw things between the two Presidential candidates get particularly personal, with Trump calling Clinton 'such a nasty woman' and Clinton suggesting Trump was Russian president Putin's 'puppet.'

The third debate also threw up some familiar attacks, as Donald Trump referenced Clinton's emails and her 'bad' experience, while Clinton in turn questioned Trump's honesty, his business dealings and the revelations about his inappropriate conduct with women. But arguably the most controversial moment of Wednesday night's debate was Trump's refusal to say whether he would accept the outcome of the election. 'I will look at it at the time' he said, 'I will keep you in suspense.'

The statement was condemned by Republicans as well as Democrats as it undermines one of the most fundamental principles of the US political system, which states that there must be a peaceful and undisputed transfer of power from one president to the next following an election.

And if you're still reeling from Donald Trump's quotes, (and well just Donald Trump per se at this point) here are some of her best comebacks from all three debates that we should revisit.

When Trump said Clinton’s only experience was 'bad experience'

Clinton: 'Back in the 1970s, I worked for the Children’s Defence Fund and I was taking on discrimination. He was getting sued by the Justice Department for discrimination. And on the day I was in the Situation Room monitoring the raid that brought Osama bin Laden to justice, he was hosting Celebrity Apprentice.'

When Trump claimed the election system is 'rigged'

Clinton: 'You know, every time Donald thinks things aren't going in his direction, he claims whatever it is, is rigged against him. The FBI conducted a yearlong investigation into my emails. They concluded there was no case.

He said the FBI was rigged. He lost the Iowa caucus, he lost the Wisconsin primary, he said the Republican primary was rigged against him. Then, Trump University gets sued for fraud and racketeering. He claims the court system and the federal judge is rigged against him.

There was even a time when he didn't get an Emmy for his TV program three years in a row and he started tweeting that the Emmys were rigged against him.'

When Trump denied he ever supported the Iraq war, Clinton told everyone to just 'Google it'

Clinton: 'He has consistently denied what is a very clear fact that before the invasion - he supported it. I just want everybody to go Google it. Google 'Donald Trump Iraq' and you'll see the dozens of sources which verify that he was for the invasion of Iraq.'

When Trump criticised Clinton's view on abortion

Clinton: 'You should meet with some of the women that I've met with. Women I've known over the course of my life. This is one of the worst possible choices that any woman and her family has to make. I do not believe the government should be making these decisions. I've been to countries where governments forced women to have abortions like they did in China or force women to bear children like they used to do in Romania. I can tell you the government has no business in the decisions that women make with their families in accordance with their faith, with medical advice, and I will stand up for that right.'

When Trump accused Clinton of 'attacking women' by defending her husband against the women who claimed he molested them

Clinton: 'When I hear something like that, I am reminded of what my friend, Michelle Obama, advised us all: When they go low, you go high.'

When Trump claimed (among other things) that Hillary had 'acid washed' 33,000 emails

Clinton: 'I told people that it would be impossible to be fact-checking Donald all the time. I'd never get to talk about anything I want to do and how we're going to really make lives better for people. So go to HillaryClinton.com. You can fact check him in real time. Last time at the first debate, we had millions of people fact checking, so I expect we'll have millions more fact checking, because, you know, it is, it's just awfully good that someone with the temperament of Donald Trump is not in charge of the law in our country.'

When Trump said Hillary would not face up to 'radical Islamic terror'

Clinton: 'I want to say just a couple of things. First, we've had Muslims in America since George Washington. And we've had many successful Muslims. We just lost a particular well-known one called Muhammad Ali.'

When Trump suggested Hillary doesn't have 'the stamina' to be president

Clinton: 'As soon as he travels to 112 countries and negotiates a peace deal, a cease-fire, a release of dissidents, an opening of new opportunities and nations around the world, or even spends 11 hours testifying in front of a congressional committee, he can talk to me about stamina.'

When Trump attacked Clinton for lack of leadership in government

Clinton: 'I have a feeling that by the end of this evening I'm going to be blamed for everything that's ever happened.'

Trump: 'Why not?'

Clinton: 'Why not? Yeah, why not? You know, just join the debate by saying more crazy things.'

When Trump announced he would introduce the lowest taxes America had ever seen

Clinton: 'It is sort of amusing to hear somebody who hasn't paid federal income taxes in maybe 20 years talking about what he's going to do.'

When Trump accused Clinton of preparing for the debate

Clinton: 'I think... I think Donald just criticised me for preparing for this debate. And yes, I did. And you know what else I prepared for? I prepared to be president. And I think that's a good thing.'

When Trump boasted about his business credentials

Clinton: 'Do the thousands of people that you have stiffed over the course of your business not deserve some kind of apology from someone who has taken their labor [sic], taken the goods that they produced, and then refused to pay them? And when we talk about your business, you've taken business bankruptcy six times.'

And then there was this jibe about Trump's tax returns...

Clinton: 'You’ve gotta ask yourself, why won’t he release his tax returns? First, maybe he’s not as rich as he says he is. Second, maybe he’s not as charitable as he claims to be. … It must be something terrible he’s trying to hide… I think the question is, were he ever to get near the White House, what would be those conflicts? Who does he owe money to? Well he owes you the answers to that.'

When he suggested Hillary doesn't have 'the look' to be president (what does that even mean?!)

Clinton: 'He tried to switch from looks to stamina… But this is a man who has called women pigs, slobs and dogs. Someone who has said pregnancy is an inconvenience to employers, women don’t deserve equal pay unless they do as good a job as men.'

When Trump massaged a few facts...

Clinton: 'I hope the fact checkers are turning up the volume and really working hard.'

Clinton: 1, Trump: 0
