Soldiers and dolls

I was sitting chatting with a male reporter about dating. He posited that while the dashing war correspondent thing is great for men pulling women, it doesn't work so well the other way around.

I am becoming ever more convinced that men want stay-at-home wives who exist to adore them. OK I may be oversimplifying here but I think the general point holds true.

I was mulling this over with my flatmate a few days later. She came out with a great saying that I hadn't heard till now (I am getting a bit sick of the oft repeated "odds are good, goods are odd" motto) which I feel compelled to share:

When they are little, girls like playing with dolls and boys like playing with soldiers.
But when they grow up, girls like playing with soldiers and boys like playing with dolls.

Ah, so true.
