NY Lust-Have

My name is Rachael Wright and I have a deceptively large head. No really, it’s kind of enormous. People never believe me, but the proof is in the not fitting of hats. Ever.
I’m also a bit blind and since my glasses snapped a few months ago, I’ve been in the market to replace them. Here’s a tip: don’t ask your optician to squeeze £140 prescription lenses into frames you got from a mall in Indianapolis for 10 bucks.
Luckily, I’ve found some Ray-Ban Wayfarers which actually fit my cooking apple head without looking ridiculous... although I appear to be cheating on my Aviators and wearing them as sunglasses instead of taking them to an optician to have the lenses put in.
While searching for somewhere that sells the elusive larger 54mm Wayfarer frame, I found these in a shop on Bedford Avenue in Williamsburg:
I sort of love them, sort of hate them.
If you love them, buy them in the US where they’re around $145 – they’re the same in pounds in the UK. The exchange rate may be shoddy, but there are still bargains to be had out here.
I think I’ll just stick to buying these napkins for my kitsch Subway map print fix:
These are from Fishs Eddy, just off Union Square. If, like me, you love kitchen & homeware shops, this place will be HEAVEN for you.
I’ve had my eye on this puppy for a while now…
But I’m being ever so well-behaved and frugal at the moment, and as good as I am at justifying ridiculous impulse purchases, I’m having trouble convincing even myself that a 2ft cast iron Chrysler Building lantern can be deemed a necessity.

I love love love your blog. Hoping to pop back to Brooklyn with some friends in the next couple of months, so do you have any more tips for places that will make my credit card cry?
