In a New York minute...

I'm with Oliver Twist when it comes to food. I'll sing songs about how glorious it is and unashamedly ask for a second helping every time. Living in New York means I have a multitude of fabulous restaurants on my doorstep - I'm truly spoilt for choice and I don't mind one tiny bit.
I went to Le Caprice for a Euro-chic champagne lunch with Lindsey (above) recently. Housed in The Pierre Hotel opposite Central Park, the Art Deco monochrome dining room is perfect for a sophisticated yet casual girly lunch.
The service is refreshingly un-snooty for such a swanky establishment and attentive without being over-the-top. And the food? DIVINE. I'd love to say we're the genteel types who go for the salad option (dressing on the side, hold the croutons), but Lindsey is a Yorkshire lass and I'm from Northampton - refined elegance isn't our forte. Instead, I plumped for a perfectly-cooked steak and chips ($44/£30), while Lindsey chose the posh fish and chips with mushy peas ($25/£17). Neither had dressing or croutons, so we're halfway there...
We get points for our starters being fairly delicate too; rock melon and prosciutto for me ($12/£8) and soft-shell crab tempura ($16/£11) - which gave me starter envy - for Miss Kelk.
Le Caprice also has a fairly substantial vegetarian/vegan menu for the non-carnivores and the desserts are so stylishly presented, you instantly forgive them for their saturated fat content. We had the passionfruit panna cotta and the honeycomb ice cream with hot chocolate sauce (both $10/£7).
We're usually happy to pop to our local brunch place in Brooklyn for bacon and eggs on toast, but Le Caprice was a glamorously decadent treat and it had us wishing we could be Park Avenue Princesses full-time.
