Joy of joys! I've been commissioned to write a guide to The Hamptons for a lifestyle concierge service (I would quite like one of these - and the money it would take to have one), which means I have to go there to know what I'm writing about. Sometimes life is hard like that.

Tomorrow I'll be hopping on the Long Island Railroad from Penn Station to East Hampton with the lovely Lindsey Kelk - fellow ex-pat and author extraordinaire. We'll be staying at East Hampton Point Marina, renting bikes (Lindsey doesn't know this yet) and generally lowering the tone in New York's playground to the rich and famous.

THIS JUST IN: There's a Saks Fifth Avenue not far from the hotel. This could be dangerous.

In other news, a couple of days ago hell froze over and I succumbed to Twitter. You can blame my Hamptons buddy for this. I don't really understand it and I'm not convinced I don't hate it. I will persevere though.
