Ticket to fat camp

Posted by Lindsey Cole at 22:18 on 6 Apr 2010

You don't know what hot is until you cycle 100.4 miles through the Sudanese desert in 54 degrees of heat. We arrived in Sudan's capital of Khartoum just as the sun was setting, enabling us to lose our way following our contact to our place of rest. Rest wouldn't be the word of choice that those who normally frequent the same vicinity. Our nights accommodation was none other than Dr Hibba's weight loss and nutrition camp. On arrival we were paraded upstairs and sat before an eager and interested audience, all there to lose some pounds. Irony isn't just the first word that sprang to mind.  With easy access to a set of scales we were all too keen to surprise ourselves with how much weight we'd lost, or not. John had lost the equivalent of an entire pannier bag. I would have loved to have given them some tips on how to shed those
pounds. However, after stepping onto the scales and discovering I'd only spared myself onemeasely pound I wasn't the one to offer the advice. Quite a lot of hard work to lose just a pound. I would've done better staying at home, wrapping myself up in clingfilm and guzzling cabbage soup for a day.
