Just my luck

Posted by Lindsey Cole at 22:53 on 16 Feb 2010

From doing research about the trip I came accross an organised Canadian cycling group, Tour d'Afrique, who've been attempting a similar route for a few years. I read one lady's blog and was quite excited at what I learnt. She'd completed all 8000 miles without receiving a single puncture. My pupils dilated with excitment and I started wondering whether that 2 hour mechanics lesson I received from Matt in the Cycle Care was a waste of time. I didn't have one pucture in the 1000 miles from Lands End to John O'Groats. Maybe, if i have the same tyres as her I won't get a single hole, nail,or nasty foreign object in my tyre for the length of the African continent?!  Alas, my hope was swallowed up as quickly as my tyre defated. It took just 2 days, with 130 or so to go, and I not only got one puncture, but 2. 2 in an hour! I then made a 25 Egptian pence (about 2p) bet with Dicken that I won't get a puncture for the rest of the trip, I've had my share. Will I ever learn?
