Are You There God? It's Me, Ellie
Posted by Ellie Omahoney at 22:16 on 23 Nov 2009
I've been out of radio contact. So much so that even my most loyal (read: only) fans (hi Mum and Emma) declared last week that they were going to stop bothering to check my blog unless I updated it. Today.
I've been rubbish. Even The Sunday Times Style magazine said so when it listed ‘Lazy bloggers' as one of their pet hates yesterday. They hate me. I hate myself. It's a cosy hate-hate relationship.
Anyway, if anyone is still reading, I do have a few mitigating factors for my pathetic online efforts.
Since 16th October (the date of my last blog), the following things have become true:
1. I have moved back to London. Kind of.
2. I am living between three places (Sam's new flat in Clapham, my little sister's Kings Road house share, my big sister's lovely London Bridge flat while she's off travelling the world).
3. I have been doing lots of freelance work for some lovely magazines and newspapers. (Something not to be taken for granted in these mean, lean times.)
4. This lovely freelance work has been done mostly in the evenings, in a rather frantic fashion, because I've been spending my days doing something a bit different. Working in a primary school in Parsons Green. Well, more accurately sitting at the back of the classroom, mute, scribbling notes on I don't know what, trying to figure out whether I should jack in seven years' hackery for the heady heights of, well, six-year-olds. I figure even if I don't do it, it'll be good research for the book. That's what I'm telling myself anyway. It's been one of the things helping to get me out of bed at 6.45am on cold, rainy mornings.
5. I have been reading lots of chick-lit to help with my book writing, which I'm still trying to do (I even met my would be agent for breakfast this month, who is a proper, grown-up agent but a friend, too, so I'm not sure if it counts). And having snootily dismissed those neon pink covers for years, I realise I love Marian Keyes/Catherine Alliott/Cecelia Ahern... continue to fade.
6. I am going through a sex change.
7. The last point isn't true, but I felt I had to jazz the list up.
Now I'm back, I don't know why it took me so long to say all of the above. Maybe I was scared of saying Number 4 aloud. Done now.
I hope someone's still out there.

You never ring, you never write, you lazy blogger you! But don't be daft, we're going nowhere. We wouldn't miss you for all the world even if you do only pass by once in a blue moon
