Moschino Spring/Summer 2010, Milan Fashion Week

Invitations to fashion shows can be things of beauty - more suitable for framing at home than chucking under your seat once you've manhandled your way into it, although that's more usually their fate.

Special mention this week, therefore, must go to Moschino who produced not one fabulous invite - with the daisy-shaped sunglasses for its Cheap & Chic show - but two - with sweet little paper recipe books, complete with pressed flowers and cardboard spoons - for its mainline collection.

The rustic feel of the invite played out on the runway in the form of cute cherry-print smock dresses and halter-neck gowns, along with a handful of splashy floral prints on pouffy skirts and corseted tops.

More cosmopolitan were the gold tassle earrings, pearl accents and a back-to-front jacket-style dress (slightly reminiscent of Celine Dion's infamous Oscar outfit, but better, obviously). Meanwhile, typical tongue-in-cheek Moschino charm came in the form of inflated heart-shaped headpieces and matching clutch purses.

If Moschino won the best invite prize, Roberto Cavalli deserves the award for best backdrop.

With a set that probably cost more than my London flat, models emerged from a sumptuous Tuscan villa, complete with cascading vines, billowing chiffon curtains and flower-filled hanging baskets, onto a mosaic catwalk.

Despite the sun-dappled setting, the collection itself came from an altogether darker place. Although florals were in plentiful supply, on chiffon dresses and sheer blouses, they were styled over grey masculine suits and, with the models' moody make-up and slicked back long plaits, leant a slightly ominous edge to proceedings.
