Wintour's white socks

For those of us weaned on The Devil Wears Prada, for those of us who recently sold our sisters for a preview ticket for The September Issue, the idea of Anna Wintour flying economy is faintly ridiculous. In fact, the idea of Anna Wintour travelling anywhere without private jet seems unutterably preposterous.

Well, it seems the devils on an economy drive.

Spotted this morning at Heathrow airport, checking in for an Alitalia flight to Milan, was La Wintour herself, without an assistant, entourage or lackey in sight.

That wasn't the best bit. It seems even Vogue editors aren't immune to safety procedures. 'Off with your boots for the X-ray machines, maam,' (albeit very expensive ones, we presume), and, what's that we spot underneath? White ankle socks.

You heard it here first, white socks are next season's must-have.

PS Anna also collected her own luggage at the other end and, yes, it was all Louis Vuitton.
