The Emperor's new trousers?
Posted by Emma Sibbles at 09:47 on 2 Mar 2009
I'm just going to go ahead and put this out there. Don’t judge me.
Ski pants might be chic again.
Now you’re probably thinking ‘Were they ever chic?’ and the answer is no but we thought they were.
When people say ‘ski pants’ I invariably conjure up the image of a baggy kneed purple pair I had in my youth but I promise you that this new breed borrows nothing from its former incarnation.
The reason for this shock announcement was seeing a really chic Audrey Hepburn-esque girl in the street last night.
She had teamed a skinny legging with stirrup foot (aka ski pant) with a sweet little ballet pump and an A-line trench. She also had an Audrey gamine crop.
There was something about that added detail that made it seem very relevant and chic, not to mention cool. I wanted to be her.
Things to remember? It’s not the 80s. If it has a baggy knee or the propensity to bag forget it. Think leggings rather than trousers. Head for American Apparel. Aim for Audrey Hepburn not Waynetta Slob.
