Lara Masters and Kelly Knox, blogs, Marie Claire

On Monday night me and the crew from “Britain’s Missing Top Model” attended the lavish RADAR People of the Year Human Rights Awards 2008 where we won the Media Award for Factual Programming. I am a strong believer that it’s not the taking part but the winning that counts and we were all highly overexcited and quite happy to shove other disabled people aside on our way to the podium to collect our trophy.

I loved catching up with our models from the show and tried making them all drink lots of water in between vodkas so they wouldn’t fall foul of the free bar and ruin their networking chances  (there were many luminaries and celebrities to be schmoozed if you don’t count Boris Johnson.)

Anyway, they all promptly ignored me and Kelly Knox (pictured with me above) had clearly sunk a few when she came to present the Young Person’s Award. Fortunately, she was assisted by my co-judge and Marie Claire editor Marie O’Riordan who has had  much more practice at holding her liquor and was almost able to stand completely upright.

Before I left, the models assured me they were pacing themselves with the alcohol but when I spoke to our finalist wheelchair-user Sophie Morgan the next day she was quite perplexed as to why she had a hangover after only several red and white wines and vodkas, and Rebecca Legon who wears a prosthetic limb had clearly made a point of living up to her disability by getting absolutely legless and had to be propped up by our producer.

However, the moral of the story is we won and to win is the most important thing in life. Well done girls!
