Sex and the City: the fashion
Posted by Emma Sibbles at 11:34 on 13 May 2008
Now I have been sworn to secrecy on plot and all that palaver from last night's premiere but the clothes we can comment on.
Let's start with the premiere outfits shall we:
SJP: I loved the green McQueen dress (suited her tiny figure) and I know everyone derided her choice of hat (Philip Treacy), but I liked it for the reason that she is willing to take a chance and that's all too rare. Fashion should be fun. It is not science.
Kim Cattrall: Looked really hot in a spicey red number. Up close she looks even better.
Cynthia Nixon: Black dress, bit too booby but loved her hair.
Kristin Davis: Also in red (wonder if they knew) perfectly pretty as always.
OK, now down to the important stuff: the clothes in the film.
There is no one stand out accessory like the Carrie necklace but there is a giant corsage, there is also a bird hat and a Westwood wedding dress, an Eiffel Tower bag, Vuitton handbags, diamond rings, reading glasses galore, a change of hair colour for Carrie, and oh so many shoes...
Samantha is still into her '80s primary colours and big-shouldered skirt suits, Miranda is softer (DVF-style dresses), Charlotte is still Park Avenue Princess, prim in her co-ordinates, pearls and hairbands, and Carrie is still eclectic and still rocking the low-backed dress with exposed bra strap (this look is best not attempted outside of SATC).
It's actually really hard to discuss the fashion without giving away massive plot spoilers but I will say:
1. I want to watch it again, like now.
2. I want it on DVD already.
3. Jennifer Hudson (from American Idol and Dreamgirls fame) is excellent.
4. You will need hankies.
5. You will love it and want to go shopping straight after.
