The other SATC after-party
Posted by Carla Bevan at 08:41 on 13 May 2008
My invite to Patricia Field's Sex and the City after-party came through at the last minute yesterday, courtesy of the lovely people at My-Wardrobe.com.
At the time, I was sitting at my desk in jeans, an baggy Topshop jumper and some old gold ballet pumps - definitely not Sex and the City-worthy wear.
Thankfully, and completely randomly, I was already booked in to see our very own hair colour expert Carolyn Newman at Charles Worthington, so could at least guarantee good hair.
Being a low-maintenance kind of gal (or 'natural beauty' as Carolyn so kindly puts it), hair colour is a bit of a departure for me (hair styles full stop, actually a bit of a departure for me), but Carolyn was trying a new 'dip-dye' colouring technique, which meant an especially natural look for me with blonder tips and darker roots. It also means no re-growth! Fabulous.
(The real brilliance of the technique for those who don't mind standing out from the crowd is that you can actually go really crazy with it - the journalist in before me had pink tips in her hair!)
Anyway, back to the Sex and the City party.
Given my aforementioned rather dull outfit, the My-Wardrobe girls let me ransack their showroom and borrow the most amazing Saloni backless dress, complete with gold ruffles and rather short hemline.
We then scurried around topping up our make-up and drinking champagne, before being whisked across to Café Boheme in Soho for naughty nibbles like croque monsieur and chocolate mousse.
When we finally got to the party around midnight, unfortunately the only people in attendance were lots of half naked waiters. It seems the more official party across town had bagged all four of the stars (what, they couldn't even spare one for us?) and their rapturous fans.
Still, the best bit of the evening was charging around My-Wardrobe's showroom trying on OTT dresses, dropping strawberries into our Champagne flutes and desperately trying to find pencil sharpeners for borrowed black eyeliner.
And getting ready with the girls really is what Sex and the City is all about

Love the dress, shame we couldn't see you in it, especially with 'new' hair!
