Dressing for summer

If you love summer like I do, this first bank holiday of the summer (sort of) will be filling you with excitement at the thought of long, lazy evenings in the pub and spontaneous BBQs, but what to wear?

Now that April and her showers have left us we can begin thinking of summer.

It's always the thought of summer and bank holidays that keeps me going rather than the reality. This weekend I'm heading for the country, planning relaxing evenings in old pubs, visits to stately homes and picnics. The reality, of course, will be very different.

In my head I am frolicking about in a summer dress and sandals, lightly tanned and full of the joys of spring. The reality will be me and my friends running for the cover of a pub - any pub - to huddle near a fire or heater to keep warm; rain-matted hair, corned beef skin and wrapped in the same clothes we've been in since September - jeans, boots, cardigans, scarves and probably mittens.
