The saga of Grace Jones

Oh, we were excited. Last night Grace Jones (uber singer and May Day in the Bond film, A View to a Kill) was due to sing at the launch party of some new TVs from LG. But, as these things so often do, the whole evening descended into a shambles.

The party was an odd mix of corporate and cool - lots of suits and lots of 'crazee' kids wearing heart-shaped sunglasses indoors. Oh, dear. I'm not sure where we fit in, and, not drinking so I could go for a run this morning, I'm not sure I did fit in.

After the new TVs had been unveiled, the Queens of Noize DJ'd their own particular brand of cool, Noel Fielding accompanied them on stage...

But all anyone cared about was Her Grace. At 10pm there were excited whisperings. Someone was overheard in the toilets explaining she was holding out for more money. Oh the drama!

Then at 11pm, the music stopped and a PR took to the stage, there was a ripple of excitement: 'Ladies and Gentlemen, can I have your attention. Grace Jones is a bitch.' Cue lots of shocked people. I thought it was part of the act. Brilliant.

'Do you want to know why she's a bitch?'

Um, not really we just want to see her.

'She's not coming.' And so ended the evening. She tried to placate the crowd with the New Young Pony Club, which may have worked under normal circumstances but you couldn't hide the stampede to the cloakroom.

Have your say ...
