There are two sides to me
Posted by Emma Sibbles at 12:21 on 18 Feb 2008
There are two very definite sides to my life, and I suppose my personality, never so effectively highlighted as when I have been Home home for the weekend.
I watched Before Sunset on the train north, thinking about my wardrobe for Paris, and so inspired, hit the shops early on Saturday morning. It was a surprisingly productive trip - usually when you actually want to buy things everything you see is disgusting, whereas when youre eating beans on toast counting down the days to pay day everything you see is divine. But yes, back to the trip, I managed to get a new pair of jeans, a coat (rather difficult as all the spring summer collections are in despite the fact it is -7˚ outside), more stripey tops (My name is Emma and I am a stripe addict) and some leggings (to wear in lieu of tights under boots until it warms up a lot).
So far, very fashion, very magazine journalist. Then it was a swift dash home to change into ancient jeans, Wellingtons and my brothers old hand-me-down holey jumpers (plural: layered for warmth), woolly hat and giant coat to go horse riding and dog walking (killing two birds with one stone). I think for people who dont know this side of me this would work as witness protection if I ever needed it.
Caked in mud, horse and dog hair and slobber (a messy side effect of the animals, not me), pockets stuffed with dog treats, carrots, apples and stray wisps of hay and a moustache made of mud fashion I am not. And I love it. Dont get me wrong, I love the chance to get dressed up for work each day and I would hate it if I was in these clothes every single day, but after a week of caring what I wear each day it is such a treat to look like a scarecrow.
And then before I know it, Im watching Breakfast at Tiffany's on the train back south marvelling at Hepburns perfect cats eye eye-liner and Winehouse-esque beehive.
