The Other Boleyn Girl
Posted by Emma Sibbles at 12:14 on 13 Feb 2008
Last night I went to a screening of The Other Boleyn Girl in Londons Leicester Square (although first I had to battle through crowds of people queuing for a glimpse of Sly Stallone at the Rambo premiere surreal).
The film is based on Philippa Gregorys best-selling historical novel of the same name, and deals with the period of British history that sees Henry VIII (Eric Bana) divorce his first wife Katherine of Aragon and create the Church of England.
Two sisters, Mary (Scarlett Johansson) and Anne (Natalie Portman) Boleyn, are thrust into the cut-throat world of the court by their father and uncle to win the favour of the King.
Henry VIII hasnt looked this hot since Jonathan Rhys Myers. The court of Henry VIII actually looks a lot like Bungalow 8 and thrives on adultery and alliances. Mary wins the Kings favour and bears him an illegitimate son ,but her conniving elder sister Anne ousts her sister in his affections and stops at nothing to become Queen. The only problem is she bears him a daughter (Elizabeth), oh, and a woman named Jane Seymour...
The film is out 7 March.
