Ohio-born Sarah Jessica Parker was brought up in New Jersey, along with seven siblings (three full, four half), after she landed a role as a young girl in Broadway production, The Innocents.

From Broadway, she moved on to small-screen roles, before starring in a series of cult Eighties films, including Footloose (1984), Girls Just Want to Have Fun (1985) and Disney movie Flight of the Navigator (1986).

By the Nineties, Parker’s star was in its ascendant, being picked to star in LA Story (alongside Steve Martin), Leaving Las Vegas, (with Nicholas Cage), and the Tim Burton-directed Ed Wood.

In 1997, a script for a HBO series, entitled Sex and the City, landed on her lap, she signed up, and the rest, as they say, is history. Her star simply exploded, the show was an instant success, and SJP’s fashion-forward, kooky character, sex columnist Carrie Bradshaw, became a revered style icon for women all over the world. Parker won four Golden Globe and two Emmy awards for her role in the series, which ran for six seasons until it, sadly, finished in 2004. However, that wasn't the end, and the fab foursome slipped their Manolos on once again for the Sex and the City Movie which premiered in 2008. In September 2009, filming began for a sequel to the silver screen production.

Off-screen, Sarah is married to fellow actor Matthew Broderick, and the couple have a six-year-old son James Broderick, born 28 October 2002. After reportedly trying for a number of years to have more children, but failing to conceive, the couple announced they were expecting twins through surragacy - welcoming Marion Loretta Elwell and Tabitha Hodge into their family in June 2009. Previous romances include a seven-year relationship with Robert Downey Jr and the late John Kennedy Jr.

As well as being an actress, Sarah also has her own best-selling perfumes, Lovely and Covet, which she launched in 2005 and 2007 respectively, followed up with three new scents in 2009.
