Born in Arlington, Virginia in 1964, Sandra appeared in several TV productions before her breakthrough performance came in 1994 when she landed a role opposite Keanu Reeves in the hit thriller, Speed.

Success followed with box office hits While You Were Sleeping, Miss Congeniality and Two Weeks Notice. Sandra's recognition subsequently earned her a place in People magazine's 50 most beautiful people in the world in 1996 and 1999.

It was not until 2004 that Sandra really showed the breadth of her acting ability when she starred in a supporting role in the Oscar-winning film Crash. Some critics marked the performance as her best to date.

Having dated actors from Tate Donovan to Matthew McConaughey, Sandra married motorcyclist and Monster Garage host, Jesse James, in 2005.
