Born David Robert Joseph Beckham on 2 May 1975, David Beckham is arguably the most famous footballer alive in the world today. Since his career began back in 1992, when he debuted for Manchester United aged 17, Beckham has achieved huge global recognition, primarily as captain of the England football team from 2000-2006. However, his various advertising campaigns, notably for Emporio Armani underwear, Police sunglasses and Gillette, have crowned him a worldwide fashion icon for our generation.
His marriage to Victoria Adams in 1999 shot Beckham to even greater heights of fame and the pair have since become one of the most high-profile couples in the world, particularly since Beckham's move to LA Galaxy football club in 2007.
In recent years, Beckham has set up football academies in the UK to encourage a younger generation to get involved in the sport. He has also supported UNICEF throughout his career, becoming a Goodwill Ambassador in 2005 with a focus on UNICEF's Sports for Development programme.
