Born Demetria Gene Guynes, Demi spent most of her early years in Pennsylvania, where she became a pin-up girl at 16 after quitting school.
She married songwriter Freddy Moore at the age of 18 and appeared on the small screen with bit-parts in a handful of unmemorable soap operas, before becoming widely known for her role in General Hospital.
From here, she progressed to blockbuster hits such as Ghost and Indecent Proposal, eventually becoming one of Hollywood's highest paid actresses.
Demi married fellow actor Bruce Willis in 1987 and, while heavily pregnant with their first child, posed naked for the cover of Vanity Fair, causing huge controversy.
After three children together, the couple divorced in 2000.
Today, Demi is happily married to Ashton Kutcher and has delighted Hollywood by staying on such good terms with ex-husband Bruce that the extended family not only hits the red carpet en masse, but even goes on holiday together.
