Courteney Cox initially studied architecture and interior design at university, before dropping out and moving to New York to embark on a modelling career. She appeared on the cover of a number of teen magazines and in television adverts (famously, she was the very first person to say 'tampon' on American televsion) as well as starring in several music videos, including Bruce Springsteen's Dancing in The Dark.Her popularity exploded after landing the part of Monica in the notoriously successful series of Friends. During the ten-year role, she also starred in the hit trilogy Scream I, II and III and it was during filming that she met her husband, David Arquette. The pair married in 1999 and had a daughter, Coco Riley Arquette, in 2004. Post-Friends, Courteney has continued to carve out a successful career in television, first starring as a magazine editor in Dirt from 2007 to 2008, followed by new series Cougar Town which began filming in 2009. She is set to reprise her role as Gale Weathers in 2010 for the release of Scream 4. She split from husband Arquette in October 2010, though they remain friends.
