At the age of 11, Britney Spears entered the entertainment industry as a 'mouseketeer' in the Mickey Mouse Club, where she worked alongside Justin Timberlake and Christina Aguilera.

In 1998, the young star's musical career took off with hit single Hit Me Baby One More Time.

She famously dated Justin Timberlake before marrying childhood friend, Jason Alexander, in Las Vegas in January 2004. The union lasted for just 55 hours before being annulled by Britney's horrified parents.

The same year, Britney met and married dancer Kevin Federline. Two children followed: Sean Preston and Jayden James.

Shortly after becoming a mother for the second time, Britney filed for divorce, however, the star's troubles didn't stop there.

2007 saw an out-of-control Britney shaving her hair off, attacking the paparazzi, slipping in and out of rehab and losing custody of her children to Federline.

Still, all was not lost: the public proved they were more than happy to continue to buy her records, with her 2007 comeback single Gimme More shooting to the top of the charts on its release.

2008 was truly the year of the turnaround for Britney, in which she finally seemed to combat her personal demons. At the MTV Video Music Awards, she took home the prizes for Best Female Video, Best Pop Video and Video of the Year for single Piece of Me. She then proceeded to win two awards at the MTV Europe Music Awards - Album of the Year for Blackout, and Act of 2008.

In November 2008 her 5th album Circus debuted at number one in both the US and the UK, and in March 2009 she launched her seventh sellout world tour; The Circus Starring Britney Spears.
