A curvaceous and confident woman if ever there was one, Beyoncé Knowles was born in Houston, Texas, to Mathew Knowles and Tina Beyincé in 1981.
She began her career as the lead singer of R&B band Destiny's Child in 1998.
Five years later, Beyoncé launched her solo music career and her debut album, Dangerously In Love, was one of the biggest successes of the year.
In total, Beyoncé has won 10 Grammy awards to date for her singing.
She has also has appeared in a number of movies including The Pink Panther and, most recently, Dream Girls, which earned her two Golden Globe Award nominations. Beyoncé married long term boyfriend Jay-Z on 4 April in a private ceremony in New York.
In 2009 Forbes listed the R&B megastar as fourth in its list of 100 Most Powerful and Influential Celebrities in the World, and proclaimed her the number one Best Paid Celebrity Under 30 - with a whopping $87million in earnings between 2008 and 2009.
