Born in Los Angeles in 1975, Angelina played her first leading role in a major film in 1995 in Hackers.
It was on the set of the film that she met her first husband, Jonny Lee Miller, marrying in 1996 but subsequently divorcing in 1999.
Her breakthrough performance came in the drama Girl, Interrupted, for which she won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress.
In 2000, Angelina met second husband Billy Bob Thornton on the set of Pushing Tin, but the couple divorced in 2003.
In 2001, she achieved international fame with cyber heroine Lara Croft and is now one of the highest paid actresses in Hollywood.
A UN Goodwill Ambassador, Angelina has adopted three children - Maddox, Zahara and Pax - and in, 2006, Angelina gave birth to her first biological daughter, Shiloh, with her actor boyfriend, Brad Pitt.
