Nicole was born in Hawaii but moved to Australia when she was four. After various appearances in film and TV roles, her big break came in 1989 when Nicole starred in the thriller, Dead Calm. This became the spring board for huge success.
The 1990 film Days of Thunder saw Nicole and Tom Cruise debut on screen together, and the couple began dating. They married later the same year and adopted two children together, Isabella and Conner, but divorced in 2001.
Meanwhile Nicole's acting offers flooded in from To Die For to Moulin Rouge! The ultimate career success came in 2003 when Nicole won a Best Actress Academy Award for her portrayal of novelist Virginia Woolf. In recognition of her achievements, Nicole was made a Companion of The Order of Australia in 2006 for recognition of her arts and charity work. Nicole married US country singer Keith Urban in 2006 and she recently gave birth to daughter, Sunday Rose Kidman Urban in Nashville.
