After graduating from college, Renée moved to Los Angeles, where her acting career began with roles in films like Reality Bites.
Her big break came playing Tom Cruise's romantic interest in Jerry Maguire in 1996 and her success continued when she landed the title role in Bridget Jones's Diary, famously gaining 7kg for the role and perfecting her English accent.
She has since starred in hit films such as, Chicago - for which she was nominated for a best actress Academy Award - and Cold Mountain, winning a best supporting actress Academy Award.
Renée married Kenny Chesney in 2005, annulling the marriage after just four months.
