Thandie made her name in Beloved in 1998, and went on to star in Hollywood blockbuster Mission: Impossible II. Filming ran over schedule, preventing her from taking the role in Charlie's Angels, which Lucy Liu finally played.
From 2003-2005 Thandie played Kem in the US television series ER, before going on to win the best supporting actress BAFTA for her role in Crash, in 2006.
She is married to writer and director Ol Parker, with whom she has two daughters, Ripley and Nico.
