Great comeback, guys

We’ve all suffered the wrath of social media trolls, resulting in not only a bruised ego but our brains buffering, trying to string together a good comeback. These ladies aren’t having it. Sass and pure class have put them on top, making shutting down trolls look incredibly easy.

Here are 7 of our absolute favourites Twitter troll takedowns… 1) J.K Rowling J.K Rowling recently flew to the defence of Tennis Champion Serena Williams after a user made a dig at her looks. The author had tweeted her love for Serena, expressing 'what a woman!' and calling her a 'role model', to which a troll replied 'Ironic then that the main reason for her success is that she is built like a man'. Known for putting trolls in their place, Rowling shut down the conversation by posting a photo of the athlete in a figure-hugging red dress tweeting ‘Yeah, my husband looks like that in a dress. You’re an idiot.’ It seems that sisterhood is still alive and well.

2) Taylor Swift After a US publication released a widely misleading headline announcing she was pregnant, Taylor Swift clapped back in the sassiest way possible, replying ‘this misleading headline and your choice of words in labelling me are why we need feminism in 2015.’ If that wasn’t enough, pair it with a meme of an orca captioned ‘I came out of the ocean because you need to stop’ and Swift may be on her way to ultimate comeback champion.

3) Gabourey Sidibe Gabourey Sidibe became a target for body-shamers after acting in a sex scene for the TV show Empire. The Internet was littered with distasteful memes, comments and tweets about the intimate scene but instead of firing back, the Academy Award nominee rose above the hate responding with a statement that she had the most fun filming that episode even though she was very nervous. ‘I felt sexy and beautiful, and I felt like I was doing a good job.’

4) Rihanna Rihanna decided to take down a slut-shaming Twitter troll in the simplest way. Tagging the singer in a tweet, her troll questioned if she knew ‘[her] boobs r hanging out in like all of [her] videos,’ implying that the nudity was inappropriate. Rihanna’s two-word reply, ‘ur welcome,’ proves that sometimes you don’t need a lengthy response to really put someone in their place, and that you can put your boobs wherever you please. Within reason, obviously.

5) Emma Watson Emma Watson was recently attacked online, accused of exploiting the death of actor Alan Rickman to promote her own feminist agenda after tweeting an image of the actor with his quote ‘There is nothing wrong with a man being a feminist, I think it is to our mutual advantage’. She was distastefully called tacky and tactless with some labelling her behaviour as disgusting - rather ironic considering the trolls' actions. Watson refused to back down, choosing to respond by posting even more tributes to her Harry Potter co-star and friend.

6) Amy Schumer Ever the comedy queen, Amy Schumer spent no time in shutting down 17-year-old film critic Jackson Murphy following their meeting at the Critics' Choice Awards. Murphy tweeted a sexist joke of which Schumer was the subject, and was met with the response, ‘I get it. Cause I'm a whore? Glad I took a photo with you. Hi to your dad.’ The original tweet has since been deleted after Murphy apologised, declaring that he should leave comedy to the professionals.

7) Chrissy Teigen Once Chrissy Teigen announced that she had chosen the gender of her baby, the internet, predictably, responded in an awful way. The most common responses criticised her ‘science baby’, calling the process ‘twisted,’ without any regard to the hardship that her and husband John Legend have faced while trying to conceive naturally. Teigen stormed her Twitter with feisty replies but the best by far read, ‘I also picked the embryo with a taste for bacon, a knack for magic and size 7 feet so she can always find shoes.’ If only someone had done that for us.
