Karaoke. Take two.

Karaoke. How do we feel about it? I know I’m not a fan. And that was before drunkenly getting up on stage at The Social to warble (yes, that’s the correct word) along to Cyprus Hill’s Insane In The Membrane whilst on a blind date for a Marie Claire feature. Since then, the absence of karaoke in my life has not made the heart grow fonder. So what dragged me along to new Hip Hop Karaoke Night at Pizza East? The clue’s in the title. Carbs. And wine.

Karaoke. Take two.
The deep, dark depths of the Shoreditch pizza restaurant’s basement club, Concrete, might not look so appealing on one of these unexpectedly hot days… but you can bet once the sun’s gone down tomorrow night, the place will fill out. When I went, it was heaving. And that’s kind of what you want. Safety in numbers as they say…

With a sore throat I wimped out of taking to the stage but at £15 a pop  (that includes pizza, salad and regular top ups of wine) it was surprisingly tempting. Especially with Salt n Pepa and Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince on the playlist!

I had been expecting pizza on tap, I hadn’t been expecting such a fun crowd, and that for me is what will bring me and my friends back (safety in numbers after all). It doesn’t take itself too seriously. As Tuesdays definitely shouldn’t.

Karaoke East takes place at Concrete on the first and last Tuesday of the month
