London Fashion Week SS15 Beauty Flash: How To Do The New Nude Nails

London Fashion Week was all about revolutionising the classic nude nail.

Here’s how to twist your generic nude into something more playful but still keep them effortlessly elegant, as schooled by the SS15 shows.

1. Condition

Because nude nails are usually translucent, it’s more important than ever to start with a healthy base. SS15 will be all about conditioned, groomed nails – but nothing too high maintenance. At Emilia Wickstead, Glenis Baptiste coated nails in Eve Snow BB Base and Butter London Nail Nosh was being used at Sibling for healthy cuticles. There’s no point wearing a nude if your nails are tired and broken underneath. The polish will just highlight the flaws so conditioning before application is vital.

2. Texture

Glossy nude nails look eternally elegant, but changing up the texture looks playfully chic. Backstage at Holly Fulton, the beauty pros said that ‘adding a matte topcoat to a nude gives that subtle contrast to the classic shade’. Keep nails short and square for a clean finish.

3. Art

It’s time to get creative. A nude base with simple nail art looks really effective. Katie Jane Hughes, of Butter London, used a black polish at Sibling to give the effect of a Sharpie pen drawn over nails. Selecting four fingers at random, each was scribbled with a cross, a dot or lines to give the underlying nude a rebellious edge. We can’t wait to try this one at home.
