We tapped up award-winning hair and make-up artist, and artistic director of hair care brand Umberto Giannini, Paul Gooch for his take on this year's top Oscar hair looks.

1. Julia Roberts

Why is it wearable: This look works well on mid-length to long hair and is a great way to add glamour to an undone style. It's wearable for most face shapes.

How to achieve the look: Blow dry the hair smooth with Umberto Giannini Frizz Off Blow Dry Cream. Make a side parting. Using a large barrel tong, curl only the mid lengths and ends of your hair leaving the top hair straight

Draw all the hair back and to one side, with a covered elastic, in a ponytail and arrange the ends into a loose bun at the nape of your neck and pin into place.

Smooth a small amount of Umberto Giannini Frizzi serum to the top hair and finish the bun with Umberto Giannini Beauty Secrets Catwalk Beauty Hairspray.

2. Emma Watson

Why is it wearable: This updown style can be adapted to suit anyone. It's feminine and face-flattering and easy to achieve at home.

How to achieve the look: This style requires a lot of texture. Using a texture mousse such as Umberto Giannini Glam Hair Mousse scrunch your hair whilst drying it. If necessary apply more mousse to the dried hair and scrunch again. Side part and backcomb the top section of your hair to get the shape. Don't brush or comb it, only use your fingers.

Now gather the hair back and tie with an anti-snag band. Wrap some hair around this to cover the band. Make some small braids and twists with the remaining side sections of your hair and pin them into the ponytail. Finish with Umberto Giannini Dazzle Shine Glossing Mist and hairspray. This style can be adorned with small decorations for extra glamour.

3. Angelina Jolie

Why is it wearable: Angelina rarely experiments with her hair, opting at this year's Oscars to just add volume to the width rather than height to glamourise her simple elegant styling.

How to achieve the look: Apply volume mousse to the roots of your hair. Blow dry with a big, round bristle brush turning hair under at the ends. Spray Umberto Giannini Backcomb In A Bottle at the roots by sections and backcomb your crown to give the lift and shape of Angelina's hair style. The remaining front section can be parted wherever you prefer and the side hair tucked behind the ears.

Finish with Umberto Giannini Beauty Secrets Catwalk Hairspray and a fine application of Umberto Giannini Dazzle Shine Glossing Mist or serum.

4. Cate Blanchett

Why is it wearable: This is such an elegant and classic style that we saw several actresses wear at this year's Oscars and can be achieved on most hair lengths.

How to achieve the look: Part your hair on the side where it falls most naturally. You can find this by combing the hair straight off your face and gently pushing it forward. The hair will fall into its most comfortable position.

Using a wide barrel tong or heated rollers, curl the hair, staying away from the roots to avoid any root lift. Comb your hair through and smooth with Umberto Giannini Dazzle Shine Glossing mist.

5. Jennifer Lawrence

Why is it wearable: Short hair often gets overlooked for the day to night transformation and, as Jennifer and Charlize Theron showed, short can be just as glamorous as long for a big night out.

How to achieve the look: This look requires some good strong texture to hold it all night. First apply some Umberto Giannini Glam Hair Salt Spray and scrunch dry your hair. Whilst drying your hair, push it straight up and off your face with as much lift as possible. Scrunch and twist the hair as you go, this will help to texturise. Using Umberto Giannini Glam Hair Backcomb In A Bottle to spray into the roots, mould the hair into shape and finish with hairspray to hold.

6. Sandra Bullock

Why is it wearable: Elegant and great for thick or curly hair, this style is a real movie star classic.

How to achieve the look: Apply Umberto Giannini Curl Friends Scrunching Jelly then make a side parting and air dry. After it's dry use a medium or small barrel tong to create the type of curl you want and either curl from the root or just the mid lengths to ends if you prefer a sleeker crown. Apply a product like Curl Friends Smoothing Balm to smooth the hair and, using your fingers only, draw the hair over to one side. Pin it into position at the back with colour matched hair pins.
