Q

I'm going to Florida on holiday. I have fine hair that is professionally coloured. Suggestions please for day time protection from sun & swimming & night time de-frizzing. I don't suit it tied up so at night like to blow-dry it etc.
Susan, Southport

A

Sun, sea, chlorine from pools, wind etc, can play havoc with your hair, so you are wise to take precautions, particularly, as in your case, the hair is also coloured.
During the day, whilst on the beach or by the pool, you should use a protective aid that will block out UVR, be highly water resistant so that salt and chlorine do not penetrate the hair shaft – and – moisturize at the same time with conditioning agents.  Philip Kingsley Swimcap Cream is made specifically for this.  It was originally formulated for the U.S Olympic Synchronized Swimming team in 1984 to protect their hair form chlorine.  It has since been updated and is even more effective.  It should be applied before swimming or sunbathing and if necessary re-applied during the day.  At night it is washed out.
To avoid the “frizzies” when blow drying, apply Philip Kingsley “Straight Hair” balm and Philip Kingsley “Preen Cream” particularly on the ends which is most prone to breakage and of course, splitting.
