The best in sun protection

Marie Claire Beauty Academy: Body

With the wide range of sunscreens available today, there's no excuse for exposing your skin to unnecessary, ageing UVA and UVB rays.

Put off by the skin-clogging, sticky formulations of old? It's time to update the products in your holiday suitcase.

For your face, choose a non-comogenic facial sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or above. If you're in your thirties or above, it's also worth investing in one of the many anti-ageing formulations now on offer, which will help guard against wrinkles and moisturise the skin as they protect.

Lancôme Sôleil DNA Guard Protective Face Cream, £21.50, actually feels more like a face cream than a sunscreen and offers broad protection from the sun's rays. It also contains mango extract to keep skin looking healthy and radiant.

Slightly less expensive, Ambre Solaire Face Protect, £10.99, is another good holiday buy.

Whichever you choose, however, keep your face in the shade during the midday sun and always wear sunglasses to protect your delicate eye area.

When it comes to the body, why choose a regular sunscreen when there are so many with added benefits? Biotherm Sunsensitive SPF50, £24.50, is a new body sun cream for those with sensitive skin, while Bliss Ray of Hope, £25, helps tone the skin as it protects.

Anti-ageing suncare also extends to the body now, thanks to Lancôme Absolue Sôleil, which feels fantastic on the skin and helps protect against dark spots and dryness, as well as offering high sun protection.
