How should I treat fine lines? (30-40)
As we enter our thirties the first signs of ageing start to become more apparent as cell turnover begins to slow leading to the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
But before you completely throw in the towel, the good news is that although we can't prevent aging, there are things we can do to lessen the signs (including those pesky fine lines!)
Apart from the lifestyle choices that we all know about (protect your skin from the sun, don't smoke etc), there are certain things you can introduce to your skin care regime to ensure your skin looks as healthy and youthful as possible.
Firstly, never underestimate the simple power of hydration in anti-ageing. As we get older, lipid production decreases making our skin drier and more susceptible to fine lines. Hydrated skin is healthy skin and can instantly plump up fine lines and wrinkles.
If you haven't before, now is the time to invest in a good night cream such as Estee Lauder's Advanced Night Repair Protective Recovery Complex, £34, and as our skin is in need of a bit of extra help, most consider this the right time to start stepping up on the anti-ageing ingredients.
Free radical damage from external influences such as UV rays and pollution are thought to account for up to 90% of skin ageing so look out for creams that are packed with free radical fighting antioxidants. Lancome's Primordiale Skin Defence, £45, is specifically designed to treat the first fine lines and wrinkles by delivering potent antioxidants such as vitamin's C and E and white grape seed extract, helping to step-up the cell renewal process by mopping up damaging free-radicals.
Likewise, Prescriptives Super Line Preventor Xtreme, £35, comes armed with its own SAS (Super Antioxidant System) to defend against the visible ageing effects of environmental assaults and is ideal for skin that has undergone minor cosmetic procedures such as microdermabrasion.
