The best red lipsticks

There's nothing like a fabulous red lipstick to vamp up an evening look, and while pale lipglosses might have dominated the make-up scene for the past few years, red lippie is back with serious vengeance this season. Here are some of our favourites…

Lancôme L'Absolu Rouge, £17, in Caprice, delivers a satiny, luxe finish and is designed to lock moisture into the lips for up to eight hours, thanks to its special Moisture Locker Complex. It also includes Lancôme's Pro-Xylane complex, more usually found in its anti-ageing skincare products, to ensure voluptuous, young-looking lips.

For truly dramatic red lips, try Lipstick Queen Sinner 90 Percent Pigment, £15, in Rouge Sinner, which is available online at SpaceNK.co.uk and in Space NK stores.

Our favourite classic red lipstick, however, comes courtesy of Dior. Its Rouge Dior range, from £17.50, has just about every red shade going, but we can't get enough of Celebrity Red, for true paparazzi-attracting perfection.

For a subtle red, Avon Pro-to-Go Lipstick, £7, in Cherry Glisten, delivers a sheer wash of colour, but can be layered up for a more intense effect as you gain confidence.

If you're still experimenting with red lipstick, and don't want to spend a fortune, Bourjois makes some of the best lipsticks around. Along with its traditional lipsticks, the new Rouge High Tech Lipstick, £7.25, is more lip tint than lipstick and, therefore, perfect for those usually more at home wearing a gloss.
