A special fragrance deserves special attention, which is why Estée Lauder's senior vice present for corporate fragrance development worldwide, Karyn Khoury, was handed the prestigious task of creating a new perfume worthy of the name Sensuous.

'We were inspired by a vision of today's woman - confident, modern yet with a timeless femininity, warm and naturally sensual,' Karyn explains. 'While creating a fragrance for this woman, we became fascinated with the idea of re-inventing feminine woods - of finding a way to make a fragrance category more often found in niche or men's perfumery more feminine and approachable. With this inspiration, we set out to create a fragrance that captures the essence of "a river of woods" - fluid in effect, almost molten or melted in texture, as well as sleek and sensual. We redesigned the texture and sensation of woods for the modern, sensuous woman.'

However, this doesn't mean that Sensuous is a completely new direction for Estée Lauder. 'Considering our first fragrance was Youth Dew, which was very avant-garde and sensual for its time, I think we've come full circle to a groundbreaking, warmly sensual, fragrance after many years of focusing on floral creations,' explains Karyn. 'Sensuous evolves the brand's uniquely feminine positioning into a warmer, more confident, sensual realm while remaining true to the Estée Lauder DNA.'

marieclaire.co.uk editor Carla Bevan is a huge fan. 'I've been wearing Sensuous since it very first came out,' she tells us. 'I love the fact that it doesn't smell the same as all the other identikit floral perfumes on the market. It's got a really unusual fragrance, but one that's effortlessly feminine, without being too sweet.'

I feel sensuous when I am flying or more precisely on take off & landing,surrounded by my favourite smells, books & people.The sensuality started as an adventure which I started when I was very young & I just love sensuous feelings it generates.
